Mevleviyye<\/div>\n Mevl\u00e2n\u00e2 Cel\u00e2ledd\u00een-i R\u00fbm\u00ee is regarded as the master (pir) of the order in the Mevlevi lineage. Mevl\u00e2n\u00e2 was a person who possessed the qualities of a scholar, Sufi, and poet in the fullest sense. He began his education alongside his father, who was known by the title Sult\u00e2n\u00fclulem\u00e2, and continued it in Aleppo and Damascus. He was spiritually guided by Seyyid Burh\u00e2neddin Muhakk\u0131k-\u0131 Tirmiz\u00ee. His encounter with Shams of Tabriz marked a turning point in Mevl\u00e2n\u00e2\u2019s life. The true Mevl\u00e2n\u00e2, who sang of divine love and ecstasy, was born during this period; initially his love was hidden in piety, then his piety was hidden in love. He composed most of the poems in the pinnacle of world poetry, the D\u00eev\u00e2n-\u0131 Keb\u00eer<\/em>, during this era, followed by the Mesnev\u00ee<\/em>, one of the most widespread and important works of Islamic culture.<\/p>\n

The Mevlevi order\u2019s identity as a tariqa began to form during the time of Hz. Mevl\u00e2n\u00e2\u2019s son, Sultan Veled. Sultan Veled\u2019s leaving the spiritual leadership to his son Ulu \u00c2rif \u00c7elebi marked a turning point in the tariqa\u2019s history. Following this event, Mevlevi order started to be represented by sheikhs belonging to Mevl\u00e2n\u00e2\u2019s lineage, who bore the title \u201c\u00e7elebi.\u201d The Konya Mevl\u00e2n\u00e2 Lodge and the office of \u00e7elebi became the administrative center of the Mevlevi tariqa.<\/p>\n

Mevlevi order, initially widespread among the Turkish principalities in Anatolia, entered Ottoman lands with the Mevlevihane established by Murad II in Edirne (1426). The first asit\u00e2ne or Mevlevihane of Istanbul is the Kulekap\u0131 (Galata) Mevlevihane, established in 1491 with the permission of Bayezid II.<\/span>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Mevleviyye<\/div>\n The foundation of the tariqa in Mevlevi tradition is love, knowledge (marifah), and service. Throughout history, Mevlevi order has influenced the spiritual life of people from all social layers, from common folk to statesmen. Many scholars, wise men, and accomplished individuals, as well as some of the most important representatives of Turkish culture and arts, have been raised from Mevlevi lodges which functioned as academies of fine arts.<\/p>\n

The Mevlevi dhikr known as Sem\u00e2\u2019 \u00c2yin-i \u015eer\u00eefi symbolically represents the creation of the universe, the awakening of man in the world, the movement stirred by love for the Almighty Creator, the realization of servitude, and the progression toward the perfect human being (insan-\u0131 k\u00e2mil). The dervishes\u2019 hats symbolize tombstones; their cloaks symbolize their graves; their skirts symbolize their shrouds. They have stripped themselves of the world and are love moths of the unseen realm.<\/p>\n

The views of Hz. Mevl\u00e2n\u00e2, and the works and translations about him, continue to influence a wide audience worldwide today.<\/p>\n

Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee\u2019s Mesnev\u00ee interpretations have aroused affection and interest within lodge circles, and as a result of this positive influence, he was granted honorary Mevlevi authorization (ic\u00e2zet) from the Konya Mevlevihane. Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee notes that he received this Mevlevi authorization in Medina directly from the spiritual meaning of the Prophet himself.<\/strong><\/span>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n
