Works<\/div>\n Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee began his writing career at a very young age, in the early years after graduating from Galatasaray. Upon starting to work, he temporarily paused his publication activities due to his duties. During this period, he wrote articles on pedagogy, composed poems, and made various translations for the newspaper Terc\u00fcm\u00e2n-\u0131 Hak\u00eekat<\/em>. His most productive period in this field was after settling in Istanbul and serving as the sheikh of a Sufi lodge (tekke).<\/p>\n

Published Works<\/strong><\/p>\n

Muktez\u00e2-y\u0131 Hay\u00e2t (Istanbul, 1891)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This work, aimed at secondary education level, was written to address certain deficiencies observed in the field and to serve as \u201ca gift to the children of the homeland.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rehber-i S\u00e2lik\u00een (Istanbul, 1909)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This book, which explains the methods and etiquette of the Sufi order, stands out as one of the first Turkish books to systematically present Sufi issues.<\/p>\n

The work provides general knowledge about spiritual journeying (seyr\u00fcs\u00fcl\u00fbk) and aims especially to guide practitioners continuing their spiritual path through the Rif\u00e2\u00ee method.<\/p>\n

Tuhfe-i Ken\u2019\u00e2n (Istanbul, 1910)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Written during his time in Medina and in the spiritual presence of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), this work contains poetic translations and commentaries of about three hundred and forty hadiths. It also includes a poetic translation of the Arabic poem Kas\u00eede-i B\u00fcrde<\/em> by Imam B\u00fbs\u00eer\u00ee, which praises the Prophet. The last section contains prayers, praises, and hymns attributed to Sheikh Abd\u00fclk\u0101dir-i Geyl\u00e2n\u00ee.<\/p>\n

Seyyid Ahmed er-Rif\u00e2\u00ee (Istanbul, 1922)<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the time of its publication, this work was recognized as the most comprehensive study on the subject. Various topics related to Ahmed er-Rif\u00e2\u00ee were addressed under different headings. The portrait of Ahmed er-Rif\u00e2\u00ee presented in this book reflects the Sufi matters that Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee valued highly.<\/p>\n

Mesnev\u00ee Hat\u0131ralar\u0131 (Istanbul, 1952)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is a compilation of notes taken by his son K\u00e2z\u0131m B\u00fcy\u00fckaksoy during Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee\u2019s Mesnev\u00ee<\/em> commentaries at the \u00dcmm\u00fc Ken\u2019\u00e2n Derg\u00e2h\u0131 between 1908 and 1925.<\/p>\n

This book is a compilation of notes regarding Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee\u2019s commentaries on the first volume of the Mesnev\u00ee<\/em>. It was prepared for publication by comparing notes taken by Ziya Cemal B\u00fcy\u00fckaksoy, Semiha Cem\u00e2l, and S\u00e2miha Ayverdi, and reviewed by a committee.<\/p>\n

Unpublished Works<\/h2>\n Arabic in Forty Lessons<\/strong><\/p>\n

Written in 1901 while in Medina, this work consists of forty lessons. At that time, one of the most criticized aspects of madrasa education was the method used in Arabic classes, which failed to ensure students\u2019 ability to write and speak Arabic despite years of study. With this work, Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee aimed to help Turkish people overcome the difficulty of learning and speaking Arabic.<\/p>\n

The Revolution of the World<\/strong><\/p>\n

The novel titled La Fin du<\/em> by author Monde Camilla Flammarion was translated into Turkish by Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee as The Revolution of the World<\/em>. This science fiction novel offers an astonishing and unforgettable vision of the end of the world, almost like an epic history of the future.<\/p>\n

Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee regarded the astronomer Camilla Flammarion as a believer scientist. It can be said that with this translation, Rif\u00e2\u00ee aimed to introduce Turkish people to a Western author who maintained a strong stance against positivism.<\/p>\n

Mesnev\u00ee Talks<\/strong><\/p>\n

This work consists of notes from commentaries on the 2nd and 3rd volumes of the Mesnev\u00ee<\/em>, taken by his students Nazl\u0131 Han\u0131m, \u0130fakat Han\u0131m, and possibly Semiha Cem\u00e2l Han\u0131m.<\/span>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Poetry and Musical Aspect<\/h2>\n Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee<\/strong>, like every servant of God, drew from the overflowing, untamed spring of meaning within himself and first benefited himself and then the region he lived in through various means. He utilized arts that appeal to the human soul such as literature<\/strong>, music<\/strong>, poetry<\/strong>, talks<\/strong>, and dhikr<\/strong>, thereby nourishing his surroundings from his inner spring. Living within the multicultural Ottoman geography, Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee expressed the meanings he carried through his works in the fields of tekke music<\/strong>, classical Turkish music<\/strong>, and Western music<\/strong>. It is known that he played the ney<\/strong> (reed flute), violin<\/strong>, and piano<\/strong>. Hundreds of his Sufi poems, composed during his lifetime, continue to be set to music and performed today. Many composers, including his students Zakirba\u015f\u0131 \u0130zzettin H\u00fcm\u00e2y\u00ee Bey<\/strong>, \u00dcmm\u00fc Ken\u2019\u00e2n Derg\u00e2h\u0131 Neyzenba\u015f\u0131s\u0131 Necip Dede<\/strong>, Muallim K\u00e2z\u0131m Bey<\/strong>, and in modern times Cinu\u00e7en Tanr\u0131korur<\/strong>, Yusuf \u00d6m\u00fcrl\u00fc<\/strong>, Mehmet Kemiksiz<\/strong>, Tekin U\u011furel<\/strong>, H\u00e2lil \u00c7ay<\/strong>, Neyzen Mustafa Hakan Alvan<\/strong>, Neyzen Do\u011fan Ergin<\/strong>, have composed music to his works. Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee himself also composed melodies for his own poems. While many compositions are in frequently used maqams such as U\u015f\u015fak<\/strong>, H\u00fcseyn\u00ee<\/strong>, Acem\u00e2\u015firan<\/strong>, Hicaz<\/strong>, Nihavend<\/strong>, Seg\u00e2h<\/strong>, and H\u00fczzam<\/strong>, he also composed hymns in rare maqams like B\u00fcz\u00fcrg<\/strong>, D\u00fcg\u00e2h<\/strong>, \u015eeref-i Ham\u00eed\u00ee<\/strong>, Ferahfez\u00e2<\/strong>, Ferahn\u00e2k A\u015firan<\/strong>, and Rast-\u0131 Ced\u00eed<\/strong>. Additionally, he composed rare works such as praises for Lady Khadijah (Hz. Hat\u00eece annemize)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The total number of hymns and songs he wrote is 134. Of these, 74 have been composed in 28 different maqams and published under the title \u0130l\u00e2hiy\u00e2t-\u0131 Ken\u2019\u00e2n<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u0130l\u00e2hiy\u00e2t-\u0131 Ken\u2019\u00e2n (Istanbul, 1923)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This work compiles all the hymns and songs written by Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee. It includes elegies, praises, supplications, and poems praising the Prophet. Unlike traditional divans, the poems in \u0130l\u00e2hiy\u00e2t-\u0131 Ken\u2019\u00e2n<\/em> are titled. Some maqams that are close to being forgotten are also included. Reminding that the Mesnev\u00ee<\/em> is a poetic Qur\u2019anic commentary and that the Niy\u00e2z\u00ee-i M\u0131sr\u00ee Divan\u0131<\/em> represents its essence, Rif\u00e2\u00ee expresses his view about this work by saying, \u201cWe also created its essence in \u0130l\u00e2hiy\u00e2t-\u0131 Ken\u2019\u00e2n<\/em>.\u201d<\/span>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Works<\/div>\n \u00dcmm\u00fc Ken\u2019\u00e2n Derg\u00e2h\u0131<\/strong> was an institution active between 1908 and 1925 and was one of the centers of wisdom of its time. Like every tekke with mukabele (Qur\u2019an recital) nights, on Friday nights (the nights connecting Thursday to Friday), this sacred place held mukabele, dhikr, and burhan ceremonies. It has been conveyed by Zikir Reisi (Chief Dhikr Leader) Z\u00e2kirba\u015f\u0131 Sal\u00e2h\u00ee Dede, one of the last cultural heirs of the era and called \u201cthe last chief dhikr leader,\u201d that the dhikr openings performed here by Z\u00e2kirba\u015f\u0131 Ya\u015far Efendi were more artistic and powerful than in any other tekke.<\/p>\n

In his memoirs, Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee taught his students the piano version of the Kas\u00eede-i B\u00fcrde<\/strong> composed in the Rast maqam to help them love the city of Medina<\/strong>. His only son, Haf\u0131z Mevlidhan K\u00e2z\u0131m B\u00fcy\u00fckaksoy<\/strong>, known as the last representative of palace-style Mevlid recitals, is known to have taken lessons from one of the most famous gazel and kaside singers of the time, Haf\u0131z S\u00e2mi<\/strong>, and to have attended the tekke himself. There are also master's and doctoral theses about respected figures raised from this tekke such as \u0130zzetin H\u00fcm\u00e2y\u00ee Bey, Yusuf \u00d6m\u00fcrl\u00fc, Muallim K\u00e2z\u0131m Uz, and Sal\u00e2h\u00ee Dede. The blessing of Ken\u2019\u00e2n Rif\u00e2\u00ee<\/strong>, who has many works in every art branch belonging to himself and his students, continues both materially and spiritually.<\/span>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n
