KAABA INTERIOR COVERING

KAABA INTERIOR COVERING

The most important reason for the organization of the Surra processions is based on the changing of the coverings of the Kaaba and Ravza-i Mutahhara. One of the most important services rendered to the Kaaba is the dressing of the Kaaba.

Along with the cover that covers the outer wall of the Kaaba, there is also a cover called sitâre or lining inside. This cover, which is not affected by natural conditions, does not need to be changed frequently. The inner covers were woven in the villages of Egypt until the time of Sultan Ahmed Khan. However, after some mistakes were made in the fine art of the covers, the Istanbul factories were commissioned, thinking that more care should be taken in the weaving of the covers. Afterwards, the inner covers of the Kaaba were carefully woven and sewn from silk in Dersaâdet and sent to Hejaz.

Today, the outer cover is changed every year, while the inner cover is changed every twenty years. Although different colors such as red and beige were used in history, today the inner cover of the Kaaba is green.
